Asymmetry of Lacunae between Brain Hemispheres Is Associated with Atherosclerotic Occlusions of Middle Cerebral Artery

چکیده

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) commonly coexists with intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). Previous studies have tried to evaluate the relationship between ICAS and CSVD; however, they yielded varied conclusions. Furthermore, methodology of these is not very rigorous, as evaluated association CSVD bilateral hemispheres rather than affected hemisphere. Unilateral middle cerebral artery occlusion (uni-MCAO) a favorable model solve this problem. Material methods: Patients uni-MCAO were retrospectively observed. Imaging characteristics, including lacunae, white matter hyperintensities (WMH), enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS), microbleeds (CMBs), compared hemisphere ipsilateral MCAO contralateral Results: A total 219 patients (median age 57 years; 156 males) enrolled. Compared side, increased quality lacunae (median, IQR, 0, 2 vs. 1; p < 0.001) elevated score 1 = 0.004) found in occluded No significant differences shown for WMH, EPVS, CMBs. Conclusions: Uni-MCAO has higher prevalence However, no interhemispheric or CMBs found.

Atherosclerotic disease of the middle cerebral artery.

Three hundred and fifty-two patients with atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery stenosis (MCAS, 53%) or occlusion (MCAO, 47%) have been systematically studied. The study involved all patients entered into the EC/IC Bypass Study with isolated MCA disease or a tandem lesion predominating in the MCA ipsilateral to the ischemic events (18 patients with a tandem lesion of greater magnitude in the i...

Angioplasty of an atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery associated with improvement in regional cerebral blood flow.

Sundt et al. [1) first described angioplasty of a stenotic basilar artery via an operative approach to the vertebral artery. Since its introduction by Higashida et al. [2 , 3] for treatment of intractable vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage, the technique of percutaneous intracranial transluminal angioplasty has been applied by others [4] for that indication. However, there has been a r...

Chlamydia pneumoniae in atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Atherosclerotic middle cerebral arteries are frequent sites of thrombosis, leading to stroke. Previous studies have suggested a role for Chlamydia pneumoniae in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. However, the presence of this pathogen in atherosclerotic middle cerebral arteries has heretofore not been documented. In the present study, we analyzed atheromatous plaques fr...

Smaller outer diameter of atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery associated with RNF213 c.14576G>A Variant (rs112735431)

BACKGROUND Intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) involves diverse histologies and several remodeling patterns. Ring finger protein 213 (RNF213) c.14576G>A variant (rs112735431), recently reported to be associated with ICAS, may be linked with negative remodeling (outer diameter - reducing morphological alteration) of intracranial arteries. This study investigated the outer diameter of atheroscler...

Metabolite changes in the ipsilateral and contralateral cerebral hemispheres in rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion

Cerebral ischemia not only causes pathological changes in the ischemic areas but also induces a series of secondary changes in more distal brain regions (such as the contralateral cerebral hemisphere). The impact of supratentorial lesions, which are the most common type of lesion, on the contralateral cerebellum has been studied in patients by positron emission tomography, single photon emissio...
